Bhabiji’s Shubhangi Atre on financial restraints post marriage; says ‘7 days into the wedding I realised I have to work’
Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! actress Shubhangi Atre recently opened up about the challenges she faced early in her marriage and the difficult choices she’s made for her and her daughter’s well-being. In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Shubhangi revealed how financial constraints pushed her to start working just a week after her wedding.
“I married very young. It was a love marriage. Baby also I had early. By God’s wish, it was a blessing back then. Now I am well settled and relaxed, and my daughter is studying abroad,” she shared.
Reflecting on the early days, she said, “I realised very early that I have to work. After 7 days of my marriage, I was giving an interview in a laser cosmetics centre. There were financial constraints.” Shubhangi was just 20 when she got married, and had her daughter, Ashi, at 21. Her then-husband, Piyush, worked in marketing and sales. The two had known each other from family gatherings.
In a revealing admission, she added, “I got a marriage proposal back then and to get out of it, I got married to Piyush. A known devil is better than an unknown one. Twenty is not an ideal age when you think about your marriage. I married my friend.”
Earlier, in a conversation with Times of India TV, Shubhangi also addressed criticism over her separation from Piyush, especially after his passing. “It was easy for people to judge without knowing the full story. They assumed I left him because I was successful, but that wasn’t true,” she said. “His alcohol addiction took a toll on our lives… I tried everything, even sent him to rehab.”
Shubhangi explained the decision to divorce in 2025 came after years of struggle. “It wasn’t impulsive. Things started to go downhill around 2018–2019. I had to prioritize Ashi’s well-being.”
Today, Shubhangi stands as a symbol of resilience—a single mother who fought through emotional and financial struggles for a better future. The actress is best known for her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! She has also been a part of shows like Kasturi, Chidiya Ghar and more.
