Badall Pe Paon Hai’s Chetna Singh hints at the upcoming tensions; says ‘Aastha will impact Baani’s journey in stock market’

‘Badall Pe Paon Hai’ narrates the story of Baani (Amandeep Sidhu), a highly ambitious Punjabi girl who dreams of improving her and her family’s financial condition. Baani marries Rajat (Akash Ahuja) and becomes a part of the Khanna family, only to find her dreams crashing down when she realizes that contrary to her approach, they lack the aspiration to achieve bigger things in life.

In the Khanna household, Rajat’s elder sister Aastha (Chetna Singh) is seen as a laid-back person, enjoying the comfort of her life. However, there’s more to Aastha than meets the eye. With upcoming episodes hinting at a growing tension, Aastha’s character is about to take a more prominent role, especially as she begins opposing Baani. Chetna opens up about her character’s and the upcoming journey.

Can you tell us about your character Aastha Khanna in Badall Pe Paon Hai and what drew you to this role?

Aastha is a multifaceted character. She’s deeply devoted to her family and at the same time a hardworking and resourceful individual. Despite being quiet at times, she’s incredibly dynamic and runs her own beauty parlor at home successfully. She’s happy and content with her life, earning a steady income from her 5-6 regular customers. When I first learned about Aastha, I was struck by how different she is from the characters I’ve played before which were always simple, sober, and emotional. Aastha’s vibrant and unique personality, along with the Khanna family’s quirks, really intrigued me.

In the show, Baani is ambitious and wants a better life for her and her family, but is labeled as 'selfish'. What is your take on the central theme of the show?

Baani’s perspective on earning a living, as portrayed in the show, is spot on. She understands that in today's world, everything else takes a back seat if you don't have money. Without money, there's no respect, or even basic necessities like food. I think this portrayal is very accurate because there are many people like her. I've personally seen a few individuals in my life struggling in the same way. Being a bit selfish in this context isn’t wrong at all, especially if you're doing it to meet your family’s needs. Wanting to grow and improve your life is important and having good sources of income is even better.

Did you face any challenges in bringing Aastha to life, how did you prepare for this role?

In the beginning, I was unsure how to approach this role, especially since Aastha is very outspoken and expressive. But over time, I adapted and grew into the role. She is a full package with complex characteristics, and I gradually discovered the depth of Aastha’s character. The creative team has allowed us the freedom to add our own touches to our characters. Now, I even find myself speaking like Aastha in real life sometimes.

Your role is going to be integral in the upcoming storyline as the only person in the family opposing Baani. What is your take?

Initially, when the storyline was unfolding, Baani faced opposition from several family members like Biji, Shilpa Bhabhi, and Ginni. So, I thought Aastha would just be another character who is not supporting her. But now, with the sudden shift where the entire family is backing Baani, Aastha has become the one constantly taunting her and being a roadblock. Personally, it feels a bit strange to portray this negative side because I haven't done that before. However, I wouldn’t say Aastha is entirely negative, but her husband has brainwashed her and hence her reactions. As the upcoming track unfolds, I believe viewers will get to see the complexities of Aastha's character and how she impacts Baani's journey in the stock market.

Are there any behind-the-scenes stories on the set that you would like to share?

We share small moments, like eating meals together and spending time like a family does on holidays. We stand by each other in times of need. For example, Akash Bhai rescued two puppies that were abandoned, and he very kindly adopted them. We support each other and since we're all far from home, we've become like a family away from family.


How do you think the backdrop of Punjab adds to the authenticity and richness of the show's narrative? How has the experience been shooting there?

I grew up in Punjab, and I’m proud to be Punjabi. And yes, shooting in Punjab does add authenticity to the story as we are portraying a family that is based in Chandigarh.
