Television has seen a lot of transformation over the years. Ekta Kapoor, who is known as TV's Czarina, revived the small screen when she introduced the two famous saas-bahu shows

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

and

Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii

. These two shows changed things for TV and our idiot box was never the same.

Kyunki and Kahani gained popularity and hence, started the era of daily soaps. Household women would be glued to their television sets to watch their favourite show even on repeat. Over the years TV has also seen a revolution with introduction of shows based on friendship, mother-daughter relationship and the latest being ichadhari naagins etc. But with many shows quickly going off air, it looks as though saas bahu sagas, which had taken a back seat, are going to rule TV once again.

Mahesh Bhatt's

Naamkaran

started on a positive note a few months ago but there are reports that it will be taken off air soon owing to slow TRPs. Earlier, few shows including

Ek Duje Ke Vaaste

, Pyar Ko Ho Jane Do, Tamannah had also been taken off air abruptly, thus hinting that content aimed at saas bahu shows still rule.

Ekta Kapoor has introduced finite series in the form of

Kawach

and

Naagin

but it is shows like

Sasural Simar Ka

and

Saath Nibhana Saathiya

, aimed at family audience, which are still ruling the TRPs.

There is no denial that television has been experimenting with content and introducing new plots, however, they still cannot seem to override the success that the has been achieved by some of the longest running shows with traditional content on the small screen.
