Apara to sing now

Apara Mehta is all set to exercise her vocal chords after 25 years.
The actress is participating in a music-based reality show, tentatively titled Jhoom, for a popular channel. The show is an adaptation of Stars on Stage, a popular show in the UK.Not many know that Apara is trained in classical music and theatre. Although the actress has not done riyaaz for almost 25 years, she has performed on stage in her heyday. She has been taught music by Ghulam Mustafa Khan and Vinayak Vohra. Now, she rehearses for three hours every day, which includes classical as well as Bollywood songs.
Says Apara, “I gave up music 25 years ago. After acting for so long, my throat is strained. Doing this show means getting back to my first love, music, something I left ages ago. There was a time when I wanted to be a singer and there was nothing else on my mind. This is my first time in a reality show. Let’s see how it goes. I am very excited about it and it’s a very emotional moment for me.”
Adds Apara, “My daughter is a very good singer as well and she is my biggest support. She makes sure I rehearse religiously.”
Jhoom also includes Shweta Tiwari, Roshni Chopra, Varun Badola, Babul Supriyo, Vinod Rathod and Suresh Wadkar. The show will go on air in October. Apara is currently busy with Jhoom, Saat Phere...Saloni Ka Safar as well as her theatre performances.
