Anupam Bhattacharya reflects on Teacher’s Day: Pause and think about the mentors who shaped you
As the nation prepares to celebrate Teacher’s Day on September 5 — the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan — actor Anupam Bhattacharya, currently seen in Ishaani and known for his role in War 2, reflects on the significance of the day and the vital role teachers play in shaping lives.
Anupam believes that the essence of Teacher’s Day is fading in today’s fast-paced world. He shared, “Teacher's Day may have little significance in today's day and age and fast-paced life. But pause and think about the contributions that your teachers have made in forming your life in little, little ways, which may not seem significant unless you give it a deeper thought. The sense of gratitude you feel is the essence of September 5 every year.”
The actor fondly recalled his math teacher, whose teachings left a deep impact on him.
“He would say, ‘There’s no free lunch, and nothing comes easy in life. Work for it, earn it, and enjoy it.’”
Speaking about his journey as an actor, Anupam revealed that his mentor in the industry was veteran actor Rakesh Bedi.
“I have forever looked up to him as my mentor and guide in my initial days as a struggler. I remember my first audition, where I felt extremely confident but froze as soon as the test started. I was miserable and couldn’t understand why words wouldn’t come out of my mouth,” he recalled.
“He taught me how to approach a scene and face the camera professionally — lessons I carry to this date.”
Anupam concluded by emphasizing the importance of mentors.
“A mentor or career guide is a must in everyone’s life, however independent you are. Introspection helps us appreciate their role and put things into perspective.”
