Actor Anup Soni and wife Juhi Babbar recently enjoyed a four-day stay in Lahore, where they were invited to talk about several bilateral issues. The trip, which began at the Indo-Pak border at Wagah, also turned out to be a walk down memory lane. Says Anup, “Juhi and I have a strong connection with Lahore. While my maternal grandfather stayed there till he turned 22, Juhi’s great grandparents are from a place close to the city.
It was quite exciting to locate my grandfather’s house. His younger brother, who was seven at the time they had left Pakistan, had told me about the landmarks leading to the house. While the name of the lane has changed, those landmarks are still intact. It was quite an emotional moment for me.”
The actor was overwhelmed with the response he got for his shows — Balika Vadhu and Crime Patrol. “It was beyond my imagination. They are crazy about both the shows,” he says. So, is Pakistan as different and hostile as it is perceived to be? “I don’t know about the country, but Lahore is like Delhi. Primarily because it’s very close to the Indian border and they speak Punjabi. Being a North Indian, it was very easy for me to communicate with them,” says he.
