Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of India’s most celebrated festivals, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and the victory of righteousness. Across the country, the day is marked with grand Ramlila performances, the burning of massive Ravana effigies, and joyous gatherings with family and friends. As the festive air fills with excitement and devotion, actors Rishi Saxena and Gouri Tonnk, from the show Itti Si Khushi, reflect on what Dussehra means to them and how they celebrate it.Rishi Saxena, who plays the role of Sanjay, fondly recalls his childhood memories from Jodhpur. “For me, Dussehra has always been a festival of community and togetherness. In Jodhpur, where I grew up, Dussehra celebrations are grand — you can see Ravana sculptures everywhere, and the entire city lights up with a festive glow. I have such fond memories of going with my family to watch the burning of Ravana’s effigy. I remember my father used to pick me up and sit me on his shoulders so I could see it clearly, followed by enjoying sweets, festive food, and family gatherings. It’s one of those festivals that truly brings everyone together and reminds us of the power of truth and righteousness,” he shared warmly.Gouri Tonnk, who plays Nandini, spoke about the deeper spiritual meaning of the festival. “I have always loved Dussehra because it’s not just about Ravana’s defeat but about conquering the Ravana within us — our inner fears, ego, and negativity. As a child, I enjoyed watching Ramlila with my family, and even today, I try to visit at least one pandal or Ravana Dahan event with my kids. It’s a beautiful way to teach them about values and the importance of good triumphing over evil,” she expressed. For both actors, Dussehra remains a time of reflection, celebration, and spreading positivity.
