His close friend

Abhishek Awasthi

told us, “I am broken and shattered. He was like a younger brother...my only brother. This is the worst day of my life. He was like family to me...bas khoon ka rishta nahi tha.”

He added, “I learnt about his death around 10.30 am. I immediately called his brother. I haven’t been able to muster the courage to call his parents in Mathura, with whom he was staying. If I am so shaken, I can only imagine their state. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Primitive Neuro-Ectodermal Tumors, in December and had been undergoing treatment in Delhi. The disease was already in its fourth stage. We learnt about it at writer-director Raaj Shaandilya’s wedding, when he experienced excruciating pain. In fact, he had recovered almost 70 percent and underwent his last round of

chemotherapy

just four days ago. He was to go in for surgery after completing chemotherapy. But, unfortunately, his condition worsened suddenly and he succumbed. We were looking forward to see him return, hale and hearty. We were certain that he’d win this battle against cancer. Aur jeet kar hi aata, par achaanak sab kuchh ho gaya.”

Abhishek and Mohit had worked together in ‘Nautanki News’ and hit it off from the word go. “We connected almost instantly. We were always together. I have so many memories of him, including those at my wedding. He performed all the rituals as my younger brother. He had no vices. Hasta, khelta, chulbula ladka tha. He was extremely talented and popular among people. Harr mehfil ki raunak hota tha woh. We used to call him Chhota Salman Khan. Even Salman Khan was extremely fond of him. I will miss him forever and the void will never be filled.”
