A superhero show for kids
Apart from its genre and storyline, the highlight of upcoming show Baal Veer is its young male lead, Dev Joshi. A seventh grader, the child actor is looking forward to the launch of the show in which he plays a superhero, who is bestowed with godly powers and shuttles between earth and Fairyland.
He says, “I am enjoying playing a superhero. Everyone on the sets helps me with my acting.” Ask him about his favourite and he replies, “Superman is my favourite superhero because his character always strives to serve his community.”
The show is about fairies who protect Baal Veer from evil forces.
So, does he believe in fairies? He says, “Of course, I do! My mother and grandmother used to tell me stories about fairies. I had never thought that I’d get a chance to enact a role where I’d be surrounded by so many fairies.” With this show, actresses Shama Sikander and Karishma Tanna are also making a comeback to the small screen. Says Shama, who plays Bhayankar Pari, “I had taken a break because I felt stagnant as an actor. I get bored easily. I want something that keeps me rolling. Baal Veer meets all those requirements and has made me realise that I can play a negative character too.” Karishma, who plays Rani Pari, says, “It is the concept that brings me to Baal Veer. The show gives me a platform to look like a queen and a diva. Kids love comedy, fairies and fantasy and they’re our target audience. I’m positive the show will do well.”
But, as kids, did the actresses themselves believe in fairies? Says Karishma, “I used to believe in them but later you realise that they are your parents.” Shama says, “I still believe in fairies.” Anooj Kapoor, EVP and Business Head, SAB TV, says, “This is a very large-scale venture in the mythical fiction genre. It’s a landmark show for our channel as it’s a totally new genre. It’s a family entertainer and visual delight all rolled into one.”
Baal Veer, which launches tonight, airs Mondays to Fridays at 8 pm.
