Who will replace Savannah Guthrie in the 2026 Winter Olympics coverage amid her mother Nancy’s disappearance?
Savannah Guthrie would not be covering the 2026 Winter Olympics anymore, due to the recent personal turmoil she’s currently dealing with. NBC just announced the person who will be stepping in for her during the Opening Ceremony, joining co-host Terry Gannon. This change comes right after Savannah decided to focus on finding her missing mom, Nancy Guthrie. Read on to know who she is.
Production president, Molly Solomon, said in a February 4 statement, “We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles,” adding, “Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller.” Solomon sounded confident about the new team, saying Mary and Terry will guide viewers through one of the world’s biggest events. “She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world’s greatest global moments," she said in the statement.
After retiring in 1980 because of knee injuries, she jumped right into broadcasting.
Carillo has since covered almost every big tennis event— think Wimbledon, the French Open, the US Open.
Three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White is joining them in the booth, too. He’s excited, saying, “The Olympics have been such a huge part of my life, and to return in this new role—celebrating the athletes, the energy, and the incredible backdrop of Italy—is truly an honor.” White added in his statement earlier this month, "I know what that moment means when the world is watching, and I can’t wait to help bring that magic to everyone at home.”
Savannah spoke out the day after her mom was reported missing. She thanked everyone for their prayers and support, and made it clear that the family’s only focus is bringing Nancy home safely.
"On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support," she said in a February 2 statement to the NBC morning show. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy."
As for the investigation, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office is still working hard on the case. As reported by E! News, Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a February 4 update that they haven’t found any suspects yet, but they’re talking to everyone who might have seen or spoken to Nancy. “At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest,” he said in a statement shared to social media. “Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie.”
