Rider Strong recently spoke about a tough experience he had while shooting Boy Meets World. During the June 19 edition of Pod Meets World, Strong, 45, explained to his former co-stars Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle that he had a "breakdown" during rehearsals for season 6's episode entitled Getting Hitched, which aired in 1999.
In that episode, Strong's Shawn Hunter character is ignoring calls from his half-brother Jack, played by
Matthew Lawrence. Jack was calling to request that Shawn assist him in cleaning out their recently deceased father Chet's trailer after Chet died of a heart attack in the earlier episode.
Strong said the emotional arc involved Shawn's complicated relationship with his father, Chet, played by Blake Clark. He said Shawn's assumption that his father had been missing from his life was undercut when he believed Chet was footing the bill for his college education.
"Shawn's emotional narrative is that his dad is never there for him," Strong said. He continued that if Shawn thought his dad was paying for him to go to college, that possibly would have created a kind of denial.
