The 51-year-old creator's comments come after Cattrall said she was not up for an "SATC" reunion and had moved on from playing the beloved character.

Murphy said it would be disheartening to see the sequel scrapped, which has had an impact on the popular culture, reported an entertainment website.

"Recast Samantha! I don't get it!... Look, I would be very devastated if I created something cultural like that and 95 per cent of the team said, 'Let's do it,' but there was a hold on it.

"They meant something to me - they were important and cultural in changing the discussion of women and sexuality," he said during a conversation with TV critic Emily Nussbaum at The New Yorker Festival.

Murphy, however, said he did not believe that Cattrall was at fault.

"I don't blame Kim Cattrall though," he said.

As per reports, the project was killed due to the 61- year-old actor's alleged demands. In an interview with Piers Morgan, Cattrall, however, denied making any demands.

Actor Sarah Jessica Parker recently confirmed that "SATC-3" was no longer moving forward though they had a good script.
