It’s been over a month since Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her home in Arizona. People are still searching for answers. Nancy’s disappearance has grabbed national headlines, partly because Savannah’s been so public in asking for help, and partly because of the strange details authorities have uncovered. Investigators think someone abducted Nancy from her Catalina Foothills home, just outside Tucson, in the early hours of February 1, 2026. Even with the FBI involved, nobody knows where Nancy is.
Here’s what we know so far, based on what police and investigators have shared, including some odd clues from surveillance cameras, a pair of gloves left near the scene, and even a backpack the suspect carried.
The night Nancy Guthrie disappeared: What happened?
Per People, the last time anyone saw Nancy, it was January 31. Her son-in-law dropped her off at home around 9:50 p.m. The next morning, she missed her usual church livestream. When her family showed up to check on her, she was gone.
Right away, police suspected something was wrong. Later, they confirmed that the blood found near the front door belonged to Nancy. That pointed to a struggle. Given her age and mobility issues, the idea that Nancy just left on her own didn’t make sense.
Where the investigation stands now
As per People, two weeks after Nancy vanished, someone found a glove about two miles from her house. It looked like the same kind of masked man who had been on her porch, caught on camera. Hopes ran high that DNA from the glove would point to whoever took her, or at least explain why.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told local reporters that they did get a DNA match, but it wasn’t what people were hoping for. It was found out, per People, that the glove belonged to someone working at a restaurant across the street and had nothing to do with Nancy’s case. The sheriff’s office later confirmed online that this person isn’t connected to the investigation.
There are still other gloves being tested at a Florida lab, but the process is slow. The DNA samples are mixed, so sorting them out could take a while.
As for the morning Nancy disappeared, police think that she was taken from her home early on February 1. Her family called 911 around noon that day after she missed her regular virtual church service. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office, backed by the FBI, started a massive search, convinced Nancy was taken against her will.
The case only got more disturbing when the sheriff revealed that the blood spatter on the porch belonged to Nancy. Then, on February 10, per People, police released security camera footage showing a masked, armed man on her porch in the middle of the night. The FBI described the suspect as a man around 5’9” or 5’10”, average build, carrying a black 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack, something one can pick up at Walmart.
Investigators also said Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m. Not long after, at 2:12 a.m., a dark figure appeared on camera heading toward her house. Sixteen minutes later, at 2:28 a.m., Nancy’s pacemaker stopped syncing with her phone. It’s a chilling timeline.
Police have thrown themselves into the search, but so far, nothing. Then, in late February, a couple living a couple of miles away shared new footage with FOX News: a car speeding down a back road just minutes after police think Nancy was taken. One of the videos was recorded around 2:36 a.m., only eight minutes after Nancy’s pacemaker last connected to her iPhone.
As of now, per People, the sheriff’s office says they know about this new Ring camera footage, but they haven’t said if it actually helps move the case forward. For now, Nancy Guthrie is still missing, and her family, and the whole country, really, keep hoping for a breakthrough in this case.
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie, the Today show host, and her siblings haven’t heard a thing about their mother since she disappeared. They’re still waiting, hoping for any news.
Outside Nancy Guthrie’s house, a sign stands as a quiet reminder of her being missing still.
On February 24, Savannah shared a heartfelt video, announcing that her family is putting up a USD 1 million reward for information that brings Nancy home. As reported by People, they’re also donating USD 500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. On top of that, the FBI still has its own USD 100,000 reward on the table.
