The set of Night Court is all too familiar to
John Larroquette. The legandary actor, who starred in the original NBC sitcom from 1984 to 1992, has returned to the role of Dan Fielding and fans are quite excited for it.
“There’s elation because there’s this new crop of people, and then there’s the sadness of remembering all those people that are no longer here,” the star shared on set at Warner Bros.
He mentioned the same during this winter's Television Critics Association conference.
Larroquette admits he can get “very” sentimental filming the revival, particularly in light of the losses of many of his former costars. The list included Charlie Robinson and Markie Post in 2021 and Richard Moll last October. He then said, “Because of the timing, Charlie Robinson died while we were doing the pilot. Markie died not that long after. Richard Moll died, what, three or four months ago now,” he recalls. “Harry [Anderson] died in 2017 or ‘18, so that was a little more removed. But as I said, it's like I see ghosts.”
The actor also says that he made an effort to include some of the original players in the NBC revival, including behind-the-scenes players. “I actually asked, ‘If you need a script supervisor, I know a good one,’” he recalls of recommending Susie Gunther.
“We were all good friends. We spent time with each other and also because we were young, we were successful, everybody had babies,” the star said. He referred to both Post and Anderson. He and his wife Elizabeth also welcomed their youngest son, Benjamin, during the same time.
