Jessica Sanchez has been named the winner of America’s Got Talent season 20, marking the end of a two-decade journey with the competition series. The Texas-based singer first auditioned for the inaugural season at the age of 10 and returned this year to claim the championship title.
Sanchez began the season with a standout audition that earned her a Golden Buzzer from judge Sofía Vergara. Throughout the competition, she consistently impressed both the panel of judges and audiences at home. In the finale on September 24, Sanchez performed “Die With A Smile” by
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars as her final number before being announced as the season’s winner.
Ahead of the results, Sanchez reflected on the significance of the moment. “This has been 20 years in the making, this would mean everything,” she said. After her win, she described the experience as “overwhelming” in an interview with TV Insider.
Sanchez explained that her first audition for the series in 2005 motivated her to pursue music more seriously. “That was the biggest stage that I had ever been on at that time,” she recalled. “I was like, ‘Oh wow, I feel like being on this stage is something I really want to do and maybe I can take this dream somewhere I never thought I could.’”
Although she experienced early career opportunities, Sanchez noted that she stepped away from music for a time to gain clarity and confidence in her path. “I definitely needed that to be where I am today to be confident in myself, to know who I am, to know what I want,” she said.
With her return to America’s Got Talent, Sanchez closed a full-circle chapter that began two decades earlier. “To come back 20 years later, back on the stage where it all started for me, I feel like I’m on cloud nine,” she said.
