Jane Sibbett reflects on hilarious moment with Matthew Perry during Friends 30th anniversary

As Friends marked its 30th anniversary, actress Jane Sibbett, known for playing Carol Willick, shared a memorable and humorous moment with her late co-star Matthew Perry. In an interview with The Sun, Sibbett recalled an unscripted improvisation during a season 2 episode, "The One with the Breast Milk," that left Perry "blushing."


In the scene, Perry's character Chandler and Matt LeBlanc's character Joey awkwardly react to Carol breastfeeding Ben, her baby with David Schwimmer’s Ross. Sibbett decided to take the moment further than expected. “I actually tried to nurse the babies—with their mother’s permission,” Sibbett said. “Matt Perry’s reaction was priceless.


He thought I’d pantomime it, but I went for it, and you can almost see him blush if you look closely at the take.” Reflecting on the milestone anniversary, Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane expressed their sadness over Perry’s passing. The beloved actor died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 from an accidental drug overdose. Kauffman called it "a huge loss," noting that the anniversary feels "a little fraught" in light of his death. Crane added, “He made us laugh every day,” while Kauffman remembered him as “the funniest man in a room.”


Executive producer Kevin Bright shared his thoughts, saying, “He had been fighting the good fight for so long, and it really seemed like he had found some peace.” Kauffman hopes fans honor Perry by donating to drug treatment centers and remembering him for his humor, saying, “Watch Friends and remember him as the man who brought joy to everybody."
