Actor Jack Stephen Burton, widely known as
Steve Burton, has announced a short break from the daytime soap opera ‘General Hospital’, with plans to return later in the year. Burton, who portrays mob enforcer Jason Morgan, shared the news on February 10, framing the gap as a temporary family‑focused pause rather than a full exit from the show.
In his post on Instagram, Jack Stephen Burton wrote, “Hey everyone, I wanted to share that I will be taking a short break from General Hospital. I am newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. I am grateful for all the support and will be back this summer. Much love – sb.” Reportedly, Steve Burton filmed his remaining episodes before the break, so Jason Morgan will still appear on screen for several weeks as the storyline continues.
Why the sudden shift
Steve Burton also offered another version of his statement that has been cited by E! News, saying, “Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that I will be taking a brief hiatus from General Hospital. I am newly wed and eager to enjoy some meaningful moments with my family. I appreciate all the support, and I will be back this summer.” The actor married content creator Michelle Lundstrom in May 2025, and he shares three children with his ex‑wife, Sheree Gustin: Makena Burton, 22, Jack Burton, 19, and Brooklyn Burton, 11. Steve Burton, in respect for his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, said to People magazine, “honestly i have never felt so loving or scared in my entire life.” “I am incredibly grateful to having her by my side”
This is not the first time Jack Stephen Burton has stepped away from 'General Hospital.' He first joined the cast in 1991 as Jason Quartermaine, later known as Jason Morgan, and left the series in 2012. He returned in 2017, exited again in 2021 after speaking about the show’s COVID‑19 vaccine mandate, and then rejoined in 2024, becoming a key part of high‑stakes storylines involving characters such as Britt Westbourne, Sonny Corinthos, and Sidwell.
Both E! News and TV Insider report that Burton’s absence this time is described as a “brief hiatus” and one that is temporary, with his intention to resume his role as Jason Morgan later in the same year, so the character can remain woven into continuing plots in Port Charles. Fans have responded in comments and on social media, emphasizing their respect for his wish to spend time with his family and hoping he returns with a storyline that fits his long‑running impact on the series.
