Veteran director Debidas Bhattacharya passes away due to COVID-19
Bengali director Debidas Bhattacharya has breathed his last today (December 27) morning. He was tested positive for COVID-19 few days back and hospitalised in a critical health condition. The news has left many in this industry deeply saddened.
Actor Monami Ghosh, Neil Chatterjee and many other popular actors were very close to him. His untimely demise has left in deep shock.

He was currently directing the second season of ‘Briddhashram 2’. Actress Alokananda Guha, who is playing Roshni’s character in this show, woke up to the sad news this morning. “I woke up and casually checked my mobile phone. I wasn’t ready for this news. We all were praying that Debi da recovers soon and comes back to the shooting floor. He was a great teacher and a father figure to us. When I agreed to portray Roshni’s character in this show, Debi Da said- glad that I agreed. Otherwise, we might not get a chance to work together. I know he jokingly said this, but…” Alokananda couldn’t complete her sentence and started sobbing. She shared how Debidas was more of a teacher to her rather than the director of her show.
Debidas, who has directed many hit Bengali television shows like ‘Maa Tomay Chara Ghum Asena’, ‘Raage Anurage’, ‘Briddhashram’ and many others, introduced budding artists and technicians to this industry. He was known for his artistic vision and dedication for his work.
Prayer has been pouring in ever since he was hospitalised weeks back. Directors Association Of Eastern India initiated a fund for his medical expenses. Many from the industry contributed to this fund.
