Television stars speak against public harassment
In some recent incidents, a number of celebrities have been harassed in public. ‘Chennai Express’ singer Chinmayi Sripaada was allegedly groped at an event. She shared the ordeal on Twitter. Few months back television actress Kanchana Moitra was allegedly harassed too. Recently, elocutionist Bratati Bandyopadhyay was harassed by some hooligans while she was travelling. According to the police, she was forcefully dragged out of the car while she was travelling in Hoogli, West Bengal. City television actors broke their silence against such incidents.
Television actresses Debolina Dutta, who is currently playing the character of ‘Ananya’ in popular serial ‘Andarmahal’, shared her experience. “Such incidents are very upsetting. I felt very bad when I heard what happened with Secret Superstar actor Zaira Wasim. We should raise alarm against such incidents. We should not be afraid, otherwise these perpetrators will be encouraged,” said the actress. Sometimes these actors are targeted at public events. “We have to travel a lot for different shows. To avoid such incidents during shows, I take help of bouncers. Otherwise it is very hard to tackle the crowd. I don’t take a chance,” she said.

According to reports, actress Kanchana was allegedly molested by three men a few months ago. She said, “It was a horrible incident. But I take a different perspective in this issue. To me incidents like molestation, harassment are a general problem. We need moral education along with general curriculum. If we educate our children about humanity and ethics, such problems won’t arise. A morally educated person would equally respect a woman and a celebrity. It’s high time that we start teaching our children what humanity really is,” she signs off.
