Sujan had to balance between serious theatre and slapstick TV shows. Here's why...

Sujan Mukhopadhyay

has on one hand looked to extend his range of work and on the other faced dilemma regarding his choice of work. Although he enjoys the deeply intellectual presentations on stage, he had too involve himself in the current crop of daily TV shows that heavily depend on slapstick humour.

"Part of the reason why I choose to do what I do is of course balancing the economic needs. But it's also throwing a challenge at myself to see how I fare in all kinds of roles. Currently, I am doing two mega serials. One is a situational comedy and the other is a tear-jerker family drama. I play both the characters sincerely," Sujan said.

The theatre personality, who is the son of Arun Mukhopadhyay and younger brother of Suman Mukhopadhyay, is often told by fans that he will be remembered for his thought-provoking plays. "I know it's a delicate balance to achieve. But really, doing theatre alone doesn't help running the house. Besides, I have been doing TV since long. But TV has undergone an evolution. There are no literary work adaptations, period works or Tagore tales now. Without going into the intricacies of good and bad, I would say keeping myself free only for films and the web would put me on the danger zone. And I don't want that to happen," Sujan said.

The actor said though doing macha shows made him a little uncomfortable and so he backed away, he thoroughly enjoys his acts with Kanchan Mullick in shows like
