Radio or television: Popular actors share their preference on Mahalaya

Just a few hours left before Mahalaya. It’s time to dust the old transistor radio, switch it on and check the frequency so that one can enjoy ‘Mahishasuramardini’ by Birendra Krishna Bhadra without any interruption right at 4 am. Listening to the radio with the entire family on the day when even a late riser can’t afford to stay late on the bed, has been a ritual for many households. Well, for many it’s a day when radio scores over television. While a few prefer to watch the visual representation on television. Rahul Dev Bose:

Rahul, who is presently busy with ‘Prothoma Kadambini’, prefers radio on Mahalaya. “It has a different nostalgia. Since childhood, I used to wake up listening to the sound of the radio and enjoy it with my family. It’s like a ritual. A few things are beautiful in its own way and I prefer not to touch those things. I would rather cherish it the way it has been all these while. Listening to radio early morning on Mahalaya is one of those,” said Rahul. (Photo: Facebook)

Sharly Modak

The young actress shared that she enjoys both the mediums. “Radio and television have different appeals. In childhood, Maa used to wake me up early morning. No matter how late I rise on other days, waking up right at 4 am is a must on Mahalaya. Since, I am from Jalpaiguri, the weather is bit cold around this time in the morning. So I used to wrap myself in a comfy sheet and listen to the radio. Soon after it, I used to turn on the TV set and watch Mahalaya on television. It is a typical routine. Now, that I am in Kolkata for shooting and study, I listen to radio. I cherish all the beautiful memories of my childhood on Mahalaya,” said Bhagyashree aka Sharly. (Photo: Facebook)
