Expectations are quite high from actor
Om Sahani’s upcoming television drama, ‘Love Biye Aajkal’. The show, which will mark his return to a daily soap after a long time, managed to catch the attention of the audience with its very first glimpse. Starring model-turned-actress Moumita Sarkar opposite him, ‘Love Biye Aajkal’ will premiere on August 28, on a leading channel that airs popular Bengali shows like ‘Anurager Chhowa’, ‘Gaatchora’ and others.
Om Sahani is back!
The actor, whose duet performance with
Devlina Kumar made the audience groove to ‘Rangabati’ (in Shiboprasad Mukhopadhyay and Nandita Roy-produced ‘Gotro’), has agreed to do a television serial after a long break. Although Om kept his bond with the small screen alive by appearing on non-fiction shows besides featuring in a small story in ‘Lockdown Diary’, he wasn’t seen in a daily soap in the recent past. Rather, he was busy with films.
‘Love Biye Aajkal’ will feature him playing a flamboyant character, named Omkar who is a successful entrepreneur and owns bars. Omkar has a colourful nature and believes money can buy everything.
Refreshing storyline or a predictable one?
Love Biye Aajkal’s very first glimpse caught the attention of the viewers because of two reasons, smart narration and a hope to bring a refreshing change to the land of telly world that’s ruled by saas-bahu sagas. The story follows Omkar and Shraban. The former has his eyes on Shraban, a new singer at his bar. He offers her a deal which the latter immediately turns down. While many were busy predicting whether a storyline featuring a bar singer will bring a breath of fresh air in Bengali television that’s habituated to see adarsh bahu-betis taking up 9-5 or even playing cricket after handling household duties; some wondered whether the story will eventually became a saas-bahu saga like others. Amidst all these speculations, makers released a second promo that talks about Shraban’s helpless situation and eventually willing to enter in a contractual marriage with none other than Omkar. Interestingly, contract marriage isn’t new to any of those who love to watch soap operas or movies. In fact, several Bengali soap operas have used the tried and tested formula in the past. Now, the question arises, whether Love Biye Aajkal has something special in the offering just like it promised in its first promo.
Only time will tell. Meanwhile, the show is going to replace the supernatural drama ‘Ponchomi’, which is coming to an end.
