‘Nachni’ Pandubala Debi Karmakar to appear on ‘Didi No. 1’

’ will feature Pandubala Debi Karmakar, a woman who performs as '

nachni

', which is a dance in the rural areas accompanied by ‘dhulki’ and ‘nagara’ drummers. It is an old tradition of

Jharkhand

, West Bengal and Odisha, but now a days only restricted to interior parts of Purulia district, West Bengal.

Although, the female performers like ‘nachni’ are now considered artists, they were mostly treated as outcast in the rural areas earlier. Pandubala shared her horrible experience how she had to face stigma years after years because of her profession. The lady in her 50's shared how her father left her when she was young.

The celebrity host Rachna Banerjee, went emotional listening to her heart touching experience. She congratulated Pandubala for her fighting spirit. The other guests appeared on the show also shared their experience with the host.
