Kamalika excited to get under the skin of Uma
Umar Sangsar is a story about a woman who manages her family with perfection. Uma, played by Kamalika Banerjee, is the elder daughter-in-law of a joint family, where she lives with her husband, daughter, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Kanka, the elder sister-in-law of Uma, who was subjected to cruelty that left an indelible print on her mind, has a special place in Uma’s heart.
Uma goes against her family and tries to find out the culprit. Directed by Anindo Sarkar, the serial stars Kamalika Banerjee, Ashmita Mukherjee, Sabarni Saha, Abhijit Debroy, Sarbani, Mou Bhattacharya and Sumanta Mukherjee, among others. The story and screenplay are by Mon Chakraborty and dialogues are by Upashana Chowdhury. After four years Kamalika is part of a serial. “By choice, I was not doing serials as I found the content regressive. I was busy doing commercial and alternative films. I am a character actor and it is Anindyada, who first thought of casting me as Uma Chatterjee, the lead in Umar Sangsar. At a time when we are talking about women’s empowerment and women rights, this serial captures the spirit in the right way. My character, Uma, is like Ma Durga, who handles everything with her 10 hands. She fights against the evil and celebrates victory in her own way,” said the actress, who completed 21 years in this industry.
