This young

theatre

actress is enjoying yet another new beginning. Gulshanara Khatun, known for her directorial play Casting Couch, is working in a popular Bengali

serial

Guriya Jekhane Guddu Sekhane. Hogging the

primetime

slot, the serial revolves around two kids, Guddu and Guriya, who share a beautiful friendship. They are best friends and always stay together no matter what. “Apart from the six plays that I’m currently working on, most of my time is been taken up by the shooting of the serial. It’s my debut in

television

and I am happy to be able to do it,” said Gulshanara.
The serial also features many popular faces from the

film

and television industry in Bengal. Alokananda Roy, Bhaswar Chatterjee and

Jojo

are some of Gulshanara’s co-actors. But for an actress whose staple has been theatre, what drew her to television? “It’s the opportunity to play a character that I won’t get to play otherwise. I’m playing a domestic help of a family based in Mumbai. Imly, my character, is bubbly and always eager to advice the owners. She gets scolded often but is a happy-go-lucky girl,” said Gulshanara.

It’s often believed that actors are a greedy lot. They love to play as many characters as possible in a lifetime. But does the change in medium affect her acting? “Though stage will remain my first love, acting on television is a different feeling. There’s no retake on stage. Honestly, it’s the money that made me agree to do television first. But now, I’m learning a lot about camera angles and I would love to explore TV more,” she said.
