“I am happy to play a character close to my real age,” says actress Sudipta Roy on ‘Pherari Mon’
Sudipta Roy and Bipul Patra starrer ‘Pherari Mon’ is set to premiere next week. It will feature Sudipta playing the role of a courageous girl who handles all the hurdles with a smile on her face and doesn’t shy away from protesting whenever the situation demands. The actress is quite excited about the show.
“I am really looking forward to Pherari Mon’s launch. It’s almost a month since we started shooting. I am playing Tulsi’s character who is hardworking, honest and courageous. She doesn’t shy away from raising her voice in case of injustice. In her personal life, she isn’t happy. Her father always wanted a son. He believes, only a son can make the family proud with his achievements. Tulsi feels bad because of her father’s constant criticism but she is determined to prove him wrong. She has many dreams for herself and her younger sister,” says Sudipta. The actress has been working hard to get into the skin of the character.
She says, “Tulsi’s characteristics are more like me. She is a girl next door with whom most of us can relate to. She is calm, composed and always smiles. The only difference is, she can ride a bicycle which Sudipta had to learn, (giggles).”
The project has an ensemble cast including some of the most eminent artists like Bidipta Chakraborty, Arindam Ganguly, Swagata Mukherjee and others. Team ‘Pherari Mon’ is currently busy with the shooting. When asked about the experience, she says, “Sharing the screen with such eminent and senior artists is a blessing. I am trying to learn many things, not just acting. Bidipta Di, Swagata Di, Arindam Da, all are very much encouraging and never made me feel that I am junior to them.”
Interestingly, this is the first time Sudipta is playing a role that is close to her real age. The actress, who stepped into the industry as a contestant of ‘Dance Bangla Dance Junior’ in 2009-2010, is quite happy about playing a college goer. While ‘Chokher Bali’ was her debut daily soap, viewers also saw her in ‘Adorini’ and ‘Kheerer Putul’ playing titular roles.
“I am happy to play a role that is close to my age. I have mostly played characters that are older than my real age or characters in fantasy drama. I had to keep the character and the genre in mind while playing those characters. But Tulsi is in college just like me,” says the actress who is pursuing Post Graduation in English Literature. The actress has been striking a fine balance between her work commitment and studies. She says, “When I was a kid, my mom used to help me finish my homework. I took brief breaks in between to finish my graduation since education is very important. Now, I carry books to the set and study whenever I am not shooting. My teammates are so helpful that they lock the door of the makeup room and stop chatting so that I can concentrate. I am really lucky to have such a beautiful family at the workplace.”
