It’s Jamai Shashthi today (May 25), a tradition in Bengali households, where the Jamai Rajas enjoy a royal treatment at their in-laws’ place. While the treatment a son-in-law receives at his shoshurbari is always special, on ‘Jamai Shashthi’, it literally becomes more extravagant with a big platter with ‘poncho byanjon’, sweet delicacies, and gifts. Besides all these, Shashuri Maa (mom-in-laws) go overboard to make sure the son-in-law gets a five star treatment on this day. Well, daughters too get a special treatment.
Celeb couple Alokananda Guha and Monojit Majumder too is celebrating the occasion with a grand treat at the former’s place. Alokananda’s mom, who knows magic when it comes to cooking, has made some lavish arrangements for daughter and son-in-law on the occasion of Jamai Shashthi. Alokananda says, “My parents made a grand arrangement for Jamai Shashthi. It’s an authentic Bengali platter full of mom’s magic. Maa prepared rice, polao, daal, aloo-phulkopir dalna (a typical Bengali dish with potato and cauliflower), fish, lip-smacking prawn curry, mutton and chicken curry, chutney. There were sweet dishes too.”

The actress said how much she enjoyed the lavish treat at home. “Monojit and I gorged on the food and simply enjoyed it. To be honest, I am a foodie and don’t believe in dieting. I always treat my taste buds with yummy food (laughs),” says the actress.
Meanwhile, the couple is busy with their projects. “Monojit and I are busy with our newly launched shows. He is directing the upcoming show Tunte, while I am shooting for daily soap Mishtu. But a special occasion, that gives us the opportunity to spend time with family, can’t be missed. We squeezed in time and celebrated the occasion with family,” she said with a bright smile on her face.
