Hits and misses are common phenomena in the world of television. Despite setting high hopes in the beginning, several television shows fail to pass the acid test of TRP ratings. Sometimes budget, internal issues or several other reasons affect the journey of a television show. In the recent past, a number of Bengali television serials concluded its journey quite soon. Ogo Nirupama

Bhaggolokkhi

Sharly Modak and Rahul Majumder starrer 'Bhaggolokkhi' was launched in August, 2020. The show couldn't live up to the expectation in terms of TRPs. It concluded its journey this March.

Pandab Goenda

Detective series ‘Pandab Goenda’, by eminent writer Sasthipada Chattopadhyay, is an essential part of childhood nostalgia for many. When the news of its adaptation into a TV show came to light, the viewers had high hopes. But the TV adaptation failed to live up to the expectation. In fact, it mired into controversy even before the show was launched for showing a romantic angle between the two lead characters, which wasn’t in the original series. Eventually, the show which was launched in September 2020 concluded its journey in April 2021.

Kadambini

Two leading Bengali TV channels launched shows based on Dr Kadambini Ganguly’s life. In ‘Kadambini’, Ushasi Ray was roped in for the titular role while ‘Prothoma Kadambini’ featured Solanki Roy and Honey Bafna in as the lead characters. Ushasi starrer ‘Kadambini’s very first glimpse caught the attention of the world. But despite having an interesting storyline, strong cast, the show failed to show its magic on the TRP charts. ‘Kadambini’, which was launched in July 2020, concluded its journey in October last year. While ‘Kadambini’ featuring Ushasi went off-air sooner than expected, ‘Prothoma Kadambini’ continued its journey for almost year.

Saraswatir Prem

Abhishek Veer Sahrma and Pallavi Dey starrer ‘Saraswatir Prem’ was launched in December 2020 and concluded its journey in May 2021. It had a strong cast and interesting storyline but couldn’t fare well in terms of TRP.

Harano Sur

Change in the cast or revamped storyline, nothing could help ‘Harano Sur’ get god TRPs. Launched in December 2020, the show initially had Sarmishta Banerjee and Priyodarshi Banerjee in leads. Later actor Suman Dey was roped in as the male lead and the storyline witnessed a time leap. Despite setting hopes high, Harano Sur went off-air in May, 2021.

Khirer Putul

Abanindranath Tagore’s ‘Khirer Putul’ gave a magical touch to our childhood. The story was adapted for a fantasy TV show starring Suman Dey, Sreetama Roychowdhury and Sudipta Roy. Rimli

John Bhattacharya and Idhika Paul starrer ‘Rimli’ is also going to end its journey shortly, according to reports. The show was launched this year in February and the makers had high hopes. ‘Rimli’ features a strong cast that includes Bidipta Chakraborty, Rajat Ganguly, Koushik Chakraborty, Mallika Majumder, Sohini Sanyal, Ananda Chowdhury, and many others.
