From new storylines to replacement of actors: Major changes in Bengali TV shows post-lockdown

TV shoots in Bengali TV industry have resumed from June 11 after many initial hiccups. With hope and following safety measures, TV industry started working to keep the audience entertained. Well, it might have been just a few days but many changes in the post-lockdown era can’t go unnoticed. While, a few actors hesitated to continue shooting amid COVID-19 outbreak and were eventually replaced, some shows underwent a huge change in the storyline as the makers wanted to spice up the new episodes. Ekhane Akash Neel

After much hue and cry, regarding the change in the female lead of popular show ‘Ekhane Akash Neel’. Actress Promita Chakrabartty has joined the cast as Dr. Jhinuk and the storyline has taken a new turn. Sources suggest Anamika Chakraborty, who was playing Hiya’s character in the show, was reportedly hesitant to join the shoot amid Corona scare. Although she joined the shoot, someone from her building tested positive. She complained that she isn’t allowed to shoot now due to the probable risk. It reportedly created a tiff between them while fans were upset as Anamika was missing from the show. Amid all this, Promita started shooting. Well, there is more to the story. Durga Durgeshwari

The show was launched as a sequel of Sandipta Sen and Gourab Chatterjee starrer show ‘Durga’. Sampurnaa Mandal and Biswarup Bandyopadhyay were playing the leads. The makers weren’t happy with its TRPs. The discussion of making some changes in the show was on from quite some time. Sampurnaa and Biswarup started shooting post-lockdown, too. The makers however wanted to hook the audience with some new changes in the storyline. Following the best formula of daily soaps, the lead characters died and the show took a leap of 22 years. Following this, Adrija Addy Roy and Ravi Shaw are now playing the lead roles. Adrija is playing Sampurnaa’s daughter while Ravi is essaying a psychiatrist. (Photo: Facebook)

Firki

As kids below 10 years aren’t allowed into the sets, little Firki has changed. Child actress Adrija Mukhopadhyay is playing the role now. Pretty soon, the storyline will undergo a change and Sampriti Poddar will play the role. (Photo Facebook)

Beder Meye Jyotsna

The show has a change in the cast after Sneha Das aka Jyotsna left the show. Sources suggest, the actress wasn’t happy with the leap in the storyline as she had to play the mom of grown up Rohini. Post-lockdown, Shena reluctantly joined the shoot but wasn’t comfortable to continue shooting amid corona scare. The role is now being played by Anindita Ray Chaudhury. (Photo Facebook)

Prothoma Kadambini

The daily soap based on doctor Kadambini Ganguly’s life has been making some noise ever since the first promo went on-air. The show started with Kadambini’s childhood featuring little Bini aka Meghan Chakraborty. As per the guidelines, kids below 10 years are not allowed on the shooting floor. Following this, Bini had to grow up in the show. The track is progressing with grown up Bini. Solanki Roy is playing the role. The show has already introduced Dwarakanath Ganguly. Trinayani

Rumour mill has it that the show was set to conclude and the decision was made a few weeks before the lockdown. But things changed soon after lockdown. Trinayani has got an extension and not only that the storyline has undergone a few changes, too, and a new track is awaiting. Octogenarian actress Mita Chatterjee is no longer a part of the show amid COVID-19 outbreak. Debjani Chatterjee is also giving ‘Trinayani’ a miss. The storyline has undergone a leap of two years.
