From ‘Chirodini Ami Je Tomar’ to ‘Nakshi Kantha’: Bengali TV shows that recently went off-air

Many Bengali TV shows have bid goodbye to the audience in a short span of time. 'Nishir Daak', 'Chirodini Ami Je Tomar', 'Bagh Bondi Khela' went off-air during the complete lockdown while 'Nakshi Kantha' came to an end even after resuming shoots from June 11. A few of these television serials were likely to go off-air eventually, but some TV shows had to end their journeys almost abruptly as the channels reportedly didn’t want to face further financial loss. Let’s take a look at the shows which went off-air recently… (Photo: Facebook)

Trinayani

Supernatural drama ‘Trinayani’, starring Gourab Roy Chowdhury, Shruti Das in the lead characters, concluded its journey last week. The channel was considering the idea of pulling it off-air even before the lockdown. Although plans changed soon after the lockdown was announced and ‘Trinayani’ got an extension. Rumours suggest the channel had reportedly had some issues with the production channel which resulted in the end of ‘Trinayani’. The show was quite popular and has been launched in Odiya and Telugu, too. (Photo: Facebook)

Nishir Daak

The supernatural-drama featuring Tumpa Ghosh, Shoumo Banerjee, Sukanya Chatterjee and Geetashree Roy went off-air in March during the lockdown. It was launched in 2018, December. The channel decided not to continue it along with a few other shows as it was reportedly incurring losses due to the lockdown. The sudden decision taken by the channel created much buzz in the industry. The show was popular for its star cast and interesting visuals.

Kanak Kakon

The story of two sisters, who are always ready to make sacrifices for each other, featured Sweta Bhattacharya and Shrabani Bhunia in the titular roles. The show was also pulled off by the channel during the lockdown, leaving the cast and crew upset. Sweta has already bagged ‘Jamuna Dhaki’ opposite Rubel Das. (Photo: Facebook)

Bagh Bondi Khela

It was Bengali television’s first encounter with the story on a weretiger. It was launched in January, 2020. The show, starring Rubel Das and Ishani Das, registered a good start on the TRP charts but abruptly went off-air during the lockdown. A few industry insiders think the decision was taken since the show wasn’t living up to the expectation a few weeks after its launch. Well, rumour mills also have it that the channel airing the show and the production had some differences, which eventually prompted the decision of pulling ‘Bagh Bondi Khela’ off-air. Rubel, however, bagged a new show starring Sweta Bhattacharya. (Photo: Facebook)

Chirodini Ami Je Tomar

The show, launched last year in July, introduced two new faces- Sharly Modak and Souvik Banerjee to the audience. It had a passionate love story narrating the journey of newlywed Ronojoy and Anuradha. While Rono was in head over heels in love with Anuradha, the latter got her heartbroken by her ex-boyfriend. The story featuring a big family kept the audience entertained until it was pulled off-air by the channel during the complete lockdown. (Photo: A still from the show)

Mangal Chandi

The mythological serial, based on ‘Mangal Kabya’, made some good noise among the audience, thanks to a well-researched team which worked hard to develop the screenplay. It was launched in August 2019. But the show featuring Adrija Addy Roy, Sreyasri Roy and Shamik Chakraborty went off-air during the lockdown just like ‘Chirodin Ami Je Tomar’, following a decision made by the channel. However, Adrija has bagged ‘Durga Durgeshwari’ and Shamik has joined the cast of ‘Rani Rashmoni’. (Photo: A still from the show)

Nakshi Kantha

Joshojit and Shabnam entertained the audience with their passionate love story. The show, starring Suman Dey and Manali Manisha Dey, recently went off-air. The team went back to the floor after shootings resumed in Bengali TV industry (from June 11). Prior to the lockdown, the cast and crew, as well as the audience, anticipated that the show might go off-air eventually. Interestingly, lead actor Suman had already bagged a new show (Khirer Putul) and the channel started running the promo too. A section of the viewers felt the story has nothing new to offer than a tug-of-war involving Josh, Shabnam and Rohini. In the last episode, Joshojit’s fans were left shattered as the show featured his death. (Photo: A still from Nakshi Kantha)
