Eminent singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay’s demise leaves Tollywood devastated

Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay breathed her last today (February 15). She was not keeping well for quite some time. The news has left her numerous admirers across the world saddened. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her deepest grief.

Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay breathed her last today (February 15). She was not keeping well for quite some time. The news has left her numerous admirers across the world saddened. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her deepest grief.
The veteran singer wasn’t keeping well and had to be hospitalised after she tested positive COVID-19. Although, she was slowly responding to the treatment, her condition deteriorated on Tuesday after she suffered a massive cardiac arrest.
Today at 7. 30 pm, she breathed her last according to the hospital sources. She was 90 years old.
Eminent singers like Haimanti Shukla, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta have expressed their grief. Haimanti Shukla termed her demise as a personal loss. She shared a close bond with the eminent singer. Swagatalakshmi is devastated by the loss.
Director-turned-politician Raj Chakraborty has expressed his grief. His wife Subhashree Ganguly too has shared how much she is saddened by the loss.
Singer-composer Jeet Gannguli called it an irreparable loss. He took to his social media handle and shared a photo with the eminent singer.

Born in 1931, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay was a trained classical singer and took talim from some of the pioneers of Indian classical music. In 1948, the eminent singer did a Hindi playback for movie ‘Anjaan Garh’ by R C Boral. ‘Taranaa’, ‘Fareb’, ‘
Jagte Raho’, ‘Baghi’ are some of the Hindi movies for which she lent her voice. In her career spanning over decades, the eminent artist had worked with some of the finest music directors and singers of India including Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, Salil Chowdhury and others.
The eminent singer was honoured with Padma Shree this year which she turned down. She was honoured with Bangabibhushan, National Film award for best playback singer and many other prestigious awards.
