Crime show ‘Police Filez’ completes 20 years on Bengali TV

Crime shows are quite popular among audiences. And keeping those audiences, who are die-hard fans of crime thrillers, in mind, almost every language has a crime TV show. Bengali TV also had a few such shows but none of these can compete with ‘Police Filez’, a crime drama which features dramatized versions of real-life incidents. Currently hosted by actor Sudip Mukherjee, ‘Police Filez’ has completed 20 long-years of telecast on Bengali television.Back in 2003, when the show was first launched, it became an instant hit. From youngsters to seniors, the show enjoyed a varied viewership in Bengal.
To commemorate the 20th year of the show, the team of 'Police Filez' has introduced the acclaimed actress, Chandrayee Ghosh as the special host. She would be joining Sudip, as a co-host. Sudip, who is known for his realistic acting, has been hosting the show for quite some time.
The longest running crime show on Bengali TV, 'Police Filez' has already aired 5000 episodes. Back in early 2000, when the show was first launched, National TV channels had such crime dramas where real-life incidents were shown through dramatized versions. But for Bengali TV, ‘Police Filez’ was truly a trendsetter for many reasons. Not many are aware that a dedicated team works hard to collect information and verify it prior to turning it into a script. While the realistic touch in the story and casting have heavily contributed to the show’s success, aesthetic representation of a spine-chilling crime story keeping the family audience in mind, made the show more popular among the masses. The makers have always emphasised that their motto is not only to reveal the true side of a crime story but also create awareness among the audience about crime. The show also highlights pending criminal cases seeking justice through its special episodes.
Interestingly, many actors, who are now leading stars in the Bengali entertainment industry, made their debuts through ‘Police Filez’. Actors like Honey Bafna, Ridhish Chowdhury and many others stepped into showbiz with this crime show.
