A new character is all set to make a dramatic entry into the Bengali spy drama, Simana Periye. The story, set in the backdrop of a war-torn
East Pakistan
in 1971, revolves around a simple village girl, Padma, who starts working as a spy for India in those tumultuous times. She goes undercover and works as a governess inside the premises of the information and broadcasting ministry of East Pakistan.
The show now takes a turn and a new character, General Sarfaraz, played by
Bharat Kaul, enters the scene. The general is a ruthless army officer who occupies an extremely important position in the Pakistani army. He’s right hand man of General
Yahya Khan, the then President of Pakistan.
Right before the elections of 1970, General Sarfaraz is sent to
Dhaka
to crush the rebellion against the Pakistani government. Padma has been on his list of targets from the very beginning and he even suspects Shamirul of being an Indian spy. He predicts every move Padma makes and vows to unmask her and reveal her true identity. These increasingly intense and exciting turn of events will be featured in the upcoming episodes of Simana Periye.
Speaking about his character, Bharat told us, “I am happy to have got the chance to play General Sarfaraz. I haven’t played such a character before. It is a negative character with lot of shades. I am just loving it,” said Bharat, who is also part of Phagun Bou, where he plays a positive character.
