Bengali television actress Sneha Chatterjee faces online trolling for showing solidarity with the protest over RG Kar rape-murder

Bengal is abuzz with protest rallies demanding justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and her family. The common people of the state, as well as the celebrities from the entertainment industry, are coming out on the streets to raise their voices for the cause. However, a number of actors have been on the receiving end of hate and trolling due to their participation in the protest demonstrations of the common people. Popular actress of Bengali television Sneha Chatterjee is the latest celebrity on that list. The actress revealed that she was trolled online for showing solidarity with the protests in the city of joy.

Sneha revealed that she was even called a ‘Maoist’ for participating in a protest demonstration. The Facebook user attacked Sneha citing her marital status and alleged that the actress’ husband had left her behind. The said user did not stop at that. The Facebook user went ahead and mocked Sneha’s professional identity as well. The user commented that someone who earned her livelihood through acting in TV serials, should even be present in the protests. Sneha gave her a befitting reply and asked what profession would be ideal if she wanted to take part in the protest demonstrations. The said user was relentless and went ahead with further comments which were equally, if not more. Sneha took to Facebook to share all the screenshots of the comment thread. Although the actress later admitted that she made a mistake by replying to the troll in the heat of the moment, she mentioned that the humiliation of a senior colleague made her angry and upset, and pushed her to engage with the troll.

Sneha, who has a son, is a well-known face on Bengali TV. The actress, who is currently seen in ‘Puber Moyna’, revealed that what she does professionally is solely to entertain her audience. She added that, despite her son’s illness, she did not deter from shooting for 14 hours straight because she was responsible towards her job and her audience. Sneha concluded her piece saying that it was unfortunate how some people were trying to shift focus from the actual movement and were still busy throwing mud at women.
