Bengali director Sandip Chowdhury, who has given several hit television shows to the audience, passed away today (January 3). Sandip, who is the son of eminent director Anjan Chowdhury, fell ill last month while shooting for television show ‘Pherari Mon’. 44-year-old Sandip was suffering from kidney-related ailments for a long time. After his condition deteriorated on the shooting floor on December 17, Sandip was rushed to a nearby nursing home in Ekbalpur, Kolkata where he breathed his last today. The news has left Tollywood in deep shock. He is currently associated with the daily soap ‘Pherari Mon’ as a creative director.
Sandip, who was fondly addressed as Babu Da by his industry peers, enjoyed a huge popularity for his affable nature and down-to-earth behaviour. Tollywood is mourning his sudden demise. Actors Joyjit Banerjee, Aratrika Maity, and many others have expressed grief.
While the on-going TV show ‘Pherari Mon’ is scoring quite well on the TRP charts, Sandip was also the creative director of the recently concluded TV show ‘Uron Tubri’, starring Sohini Banerjee and Swastik Ghosh as the lead pair. He was penning the dialogues of ‘Kanyadan’, yet another popular daily soap as well. He was also associated with TV show ‘Agni Shikha’ which made Aratrika Maity and Sourya Bhattacharya household names.
