Bappi Lahiri passes away at 69, Tollywood mourns the loss of India's Disco King

India lost yet another eminent music personality. Singer-music director Bappi Lahiri passed away in Mumbai. He was 69. The ace musician was admitted to the hospital for a long time and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated once again. He was later brought to the hospital at night.
The shocking news of his demise has deeply saddened the music lovers and his numerous fans across the world.
On Tuesday evening Tollywood lost yet another eminent singer. Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay breathed her last on February 15.
From common people to celebrities, Bappi Lahiri’s sudden demise has saddened music lovers.
Singers Raghab Chattopadhyay, Aneek Dhar, actors Joyjit Mukherjee, Anindita Raychaudhury, Gourab Roy Chowdhury expressed their grief, too.
“It’s an irreparable loss. We are losing some most possessed treasures. After Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, now, we have lost yet another eminent artist. He is the disco king to us. In India, Bappi da and Mithun Da made disco popular among common people. He had an aura that I will never forget. I was 7 or 8, when I got the opportunity to see him in a local event and I was thrilled to just catch a glimpse of him. It was one of my memorable moments,” recollects actor Gourab Roy Chowdhury.

Singer Raghab Chattopadhyay shared how deeply hurt he is. “Yesterday, we lost Sandhya Mukhopadhyay and today we are suffering yet another loss. I have no word to express my grief. Bappi Da was a stalwart and losing him is an irreparable loss,” says Raghab who shared a close bond with the eminent singer.
Aneek, who is one of the admirers of Bappi Lahiri and his music, got the chance to meet him a couple of times. He shared a photo on social media featuring him with the eminent music-composer and singer. Aneek expressed his grief with the post.

Actor Joyjit Banerjee too expressed his grief over the loss with a social media post. He shared how Bappi Lahiri’s music grooved music lovers.
Actress Anindita is also taken aback by the loss. She expressed her grief over social media.

Bappi Lahiri was born in Jalpaiguri. His parents Aparesh Lahiri and Bansuri Lahiri were eminent singers too. Known as the Disco King of India, Bappi Lahiri scored music for numerous hit songs. His romantic numbers ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’, 'Ilu ILu' are some of his all-time favourite songs. The eminent singer and composer lent his voice for the character Tamatoa in the animated movie Moana. Spanning over a few decades, Bappi Lahiri has worked in Tamil, Gujrati and Kannada film industries. He has been honoured with many prestigious awards including Filmfare awards for best music director and other Mirchi Awards.
