Ashtami: Durjoy’s secret is exposed before Madhabilata

The Ritobrota Dey starrer ‘Ashtami’ is about to go off-air soon. The Bengali serial that started only two months ago is set to draw the curtains by the end of this week. Before the show comes to an end, ‘Ashtami’ is tying as many loose ends in its story as possible. As per the current track of the story, Ashtami is on a mission to revolutionise the Zamindar household in Nabogram.
After her marriage to Ayushmaan, she has proven herself as the deserving daughter-in-law of the Singha bari by being successful at Purushottam’s test. Thammi, Sujata, and Irabati have welcomed Ashtami as Ayushmaan’s wife wholeheartedly. But Purushottam isn’t ready to accept her as his daughter-in-law. However, Ashtami is hell-bent on winning his heart – all the while not compromising on her moral values.

On one hand, Ashtami vows to bring justice to Sujata, Purushottam’s first wife, and Ayusmaan’s mother. On the other hand, Ashtami gets to know about the extramarital affair between Durjoy and Rituparna. Although Durjoy is married to Madhabilata, he has been seen getting close to Rituparna on multiple occasions. Ashtami sees them together on the terrace and informs the family about the same. Durjoy is exposed before the entire family. Madhabilata is furious with her husband. Madhabilata acts out and accuses Durjoy of ruining her life. Madhabilata reveals that despite people warning her, she chose to believe Durjoy and settled with his bare minimum gestures. Madhabilata finally vents all her anger out on Durjoy and asks him to leave her room.

‘Ashtami’ started its journey to narrate the story of a girl aiming to spread awareness against injustice under the guise of age-old superstitious practices. Ashtami enters Nabogram as a school teacher, with the responsibility of educating young minds but is constantly faced with resistance. The people of Nabogram worship their age-old myth of a local deity known as Bourani. The villagers believe that on a particular day, Bourani possesses her greatest devotee, answers prayers, and warns of impending dangers. Bourani’s vessel used to be the head priest once upon a time, but since his mysterious disappearance a couple of decades ago – the zamindar of the region Purushottam, seems to be the chosen one. Ashtami arrives in Nabogram and quickly realizes that the simple locals are being hoodwinked and taken advantage of, by Purushottam, who poses as a Godman. Ashtami becomes a thorn in Purushottam's side. Purushottam plans to stop Ashtami by hook or crook and that leads to an accident that leaves Ashtami visually impaired. Apart from Ritobrota Dey in the titular role, ‘Ashtami’ features actor Saptarshi Maulik in the role of Ayushmaan and Kaushik Chakrabarty as Purushottam.
