‘Ashtami’ has arrived at an interesting point in it storyline. As per the current track of the show, Ayushmaan is gearing up for a new chapter in his life. Ayushmaan was set to get married to Ujjwayini as per his father, the Zamindar of Nabogram, Purushottam Singha’s wish. As per Purushottam’s orders, Ashtami took up the responsibility of organizing the wedding of Ayushmaan and Ujjwayini. Meanwhile, Durjoy, one of the antagonists of the story and Purushottam’s son – was busy planning Ayushmaan’s murder. Durjoy conspired to kill Ayushmaan so that he could inherit the wealth of Purushottam Singha alone.
Durjoy sent a group of goons to attack Ayushmaan and kill him on his wedding day. Ashtami arrives and saves Ayushmaan at the right moment. Ashtami and Ayushmaan run away from the spot and end up at a venue where a performance of Palagaan is happening. To hide themselves away from the goons, Ashtami and Ayushmaan take the guise of Parvati and Mahadev. Now, at that point of the story, Parvati and Mahadev are supposed to get married. Ashtami and Ayushmaan sit at the altar and perform the wedding rituals. After exchanging garlands, it’s time to put the vermilion. Ayushmaan finally puts the vermilion on Ashtami’s forehead. Will Purushottam accept their marriage?
‘Ashtami’ narrates the story of a girl aiming to spread awareness against injustice under the guise of age-old superstitious practices. Ashtami enters Nabogram as a school teacher, with the responsibility of educating young minds but is constantly faced with resistance. The people of Nabogram worship their age-old myth of a local deity known as Bourani. The villagers believe that on a particular day, Bourani possesses her greatest devotee, answers prayers, and warns of impending dangers. Bourani’s vessel used to be the head priest once upon a time, but since his mysterious disappearance a couple of decades ago – the zamindar of the region Purushottam, seems to be the chosen one. Ashtami arrives in Nabogram and quickly realizes that the simple locals are being hoodwinked and taken advantage of, by Purushottam, who poses as a Godman. Ashtami becomes a thorn in Purushottam's side. Purushottam plans to stop Ashtami by hook or crook and that leads to an accident that leaves Ashtami visually impaired. Apart from Ritobrota Dey in the titular role, ‘Ashtami’ features actor Saptarshi Maulik in the role of Ayushmaan and Kaushik Chakrabarty as Purushottam.
