An indoor food market in Zurich’s 5th district, Markthalle Im Viadukt is a part of a historic railway bridge that was built way back in 1894. This shopping paradise is some 500 m long and is located under the 36 arches of viaduct. You can find everything from chocolates, cheese and baked goodies to everyday groceries and flowers. Apart from these edibles and perishable items, there are a number of fashion boutiques and galleries inside this establishment. Unlike other supermarkets in Zurich, this place is a tad bit expensive, however, considering the unique ambience, the prices are justified.
The minimalist, almost barren furnishings of this address impart a hipster vibe to Markthalle Im Viadukt. Owing to its interesting past and architectural exclusivity, the viaduct is more of a sightseeing spot for tourists than a shopping destination. However, this market is the daily bread for a lot of local farmers and food vendors. Try and go during the afternoons as they aren’t very busy. If in case you get hungry, there are a number of eateries that serve coffee, bagels, pies and even sushi for that matter.
