Vernazza

Possibly the most old-fashioned of all the Cinque Terre villages, Vernazza paints a picture of contrasts as soon as you step into this humble slice of heaven. While on the one hand, it is lined with the prettiest of cafes and gelaterias hidden in delicate corners, the other side is a natural marvel. This probably is the reason why it is the most photographed of them all and is in a way the symbol of Cinque Terre. Happily gorging on fried fish and chips while walking down the fantastic harbour, I was sprayed over several times by the animated waves, as if it were some form of a greeting. However, considering the beauty all around me, I didn’t really mind.

Getting there:
Vernazza is the fourth stop from La Spezia and the ride lasts about 20 minutes. The tickets come for around 2 Euros and can be bought from any of the villages. Additionally, they need to be validated prior to boarding the train.
