AM Hirani, an official in Purba Medinipur said, “We issued a notice on Monday directing hotels not to allow tourists if they do not carry either Covid-19 test reports issued 48 hours earlier or certificates of Covid-19 vaccination”.
According to a tourism department official, tourists have again started flocking the popular beach destinations and all the state-run hotels are almost full on the weekends. He further said that at Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas, which is another popular beach destination, there are no rooms available in the coming weekend.
Bipradas Chatterjee, Joint Secretary of Digha Hoteliers Association, said, “Times are tough due to the pandemic situation. We would, however, follow the government rules. We will have a meeting of our association members to discuss the issue.”
As of now, authorities have issued instructions that tourists coming to Santiniketan, Kankalitala and Tarapith will have to carry negative RT-PCR reports or certificates of double vaccine doses. The government also installed rapid antigen kiosks for tourists, who were not carrying the documents. All the hotels in the region were asked not to allow tourists without documents.
