The weather conditions in Uttarakhand are all set to take a turn, with predictions of rain and snowfall for a number of regions. As per the officials, four districts in the mountain state might see rain as well as snowfall today and in the coming days. The said four districts are Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Pitthoragarh; snowfall in expected at place above an altitude of 3000 m in these four districts. Bikram Singh, Director, Dehradun Meteorological Centre, has stated that this turn in weather is expected to have the temperature dipping further. The weather office is also expecting harsh winters for the state this year, with expectations of rainfall in the months of December, January and February.
As a major tourist destination, Uttarakhand receives lakhs of tourists every year. The number of tourist arrivals, other than the peak of summers, also sees a spike in December and January, with tourists eager to experience snowfall. While the summer season stayed bleak for the tourism industry this year, owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown in the country, winters are expected to ring in better times for the tourism industry.
