Delhi-NCR weather update: IMD issues yellow alert amid continued rainfall

The weather in Delhi-NCR has shifted dramatically as persistent rainfall has provided much-needed relief from the heat. Numerous areas of the capital have experienced intermittent showers, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere. The rain started late Wednesday and continued into the early hours of Thursday, with several regions across Delhi reporting substantial precipitation.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for today (August 29), indicating the potential for heavy rainfall in the region.


According to the IMD, the skies over Delhi will remain predominantly cloudy throughout the day. There is a strong likelihood of light to moderate rainfall in the capital. This forecast extends to the National Capital Region (NCR) cities as well, where similar weather conditions are expected to prevail.


The IMD’s forecast for August 29 indicates that the maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to reach around 34°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to dip to approximately 23°C. The combination of rain and cooler temperatures is anticipated to provide much-needed relief to residents who have been enduring the heat and humidity of the late monsoon season.

If reports are to go by, the IMD has forecasted that light rain or drizzle may continue in Delhi on August 30. Although rainfall is expected, no weather alert has been issued for that day. However, on August 31 and September 1, the cloud cover is expected to diminish, which could result in a rise in temperatures across the capital.



As the first week of September approaches, the weather is expected to change again. On September 2 and 3, light showers or drizzle are likely to return to Delhi, potentially bringing about a slight dip in the maximum temperature. The IMD forecasts that the maximum temperature during this period will range between 34°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle between 25°C and 26°C.

The ongoing rainfall in Delhi-NCR is likely to lead to waterlogged streets, which could significantly slow down traffic flow across the region. It's advisable for residents to plan their travel accordingly and allow extra time for their journeys.
