Inspired by Slovenia's incredible cave tourism circuit, Uttarakhand is planning to set up its own cave tourism circuit in Gangolihat, Pithoragarh. The caves were in fact discovered as recently as in September, and it is a set of nine underground caves that could prove to be an amazing tourist attraction.
It has been reported that the caves are multi-layered, and are up to 50 m tall containing multiple blocks in them. TOI, USAC Director, MPS Bisht said in a statement that, "These are natural heritage sites, which we are going to protect and eventually they will be opened for tourists. The central government has already given a nod. Slovenia earns almost 30 per cent revenue through cave tourism. We, too, can generate good tourism income this way."
With this new cave tourism circuit, Uttarakhand could add another feather to its cap, and have a world of new adventures waiting for tourists. Slovenia's incredible Postojna Cave is also a karst cave with railway, and is visited by numerous travellers from across the world.
