UP announces 134 acre urban forest in Mathura; work to begin in September

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to develop a huge 134 ac urban forest in Sunrakh village near Vrindavan. As per the officials, work for the same will begin in September.

Mathura District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal said, "It would be blending the heritage of Vrindavan with other similar developments made in the 'land of Radha Rani'."According to him, the landscape will be inspired by Braj Bhoomi’s ancient culture. The destination is noted for its expansive forest cover. Informing more about the chosen land, he added that the location is described as the home of sage Saubhari Rishi in Rig Veda. It is believed that the sage came here for penance and meditated by Yamuna river.
The park will feature a pond and a park, and will also serve as a natural habitat for animals, especially monkeys. For the convenience of tourists, a pathway will be developed inside the forest.

According to the officials, nearly 77000 saplings will be planted in the project. It will cost nearly INR 2.5 crore to create this garden. The region will be demarcated with fencing by the MVDA after levelling work is done.
