Last year, the government had classified different flight routes, seven in total, as per the flight duration, starting from flights with a minimum of 40-minute duration. It was done as partial services for the flights was resumed after the complete COVID lockdown in May. As of now, it is essential for airlines to sell a minimum of 20% seats at airfares below the midpoint of the minimum and maximum slabs.
The Centre has stuck to setting the passenger capacity at only 80% of the regular, pre-COVID days, and the same will be in place till March 31, 2021. Speaking on the same, Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also said the minimum and maximum fare slabs will be removed once the passenger rush reaches the pre-COVID numbers.
