Travel advisory: IMD issues yellow alert in Himachal for lightning and thunderstorm

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, going by the current weather conditions. It has also predicted thunderstorms and lightning at several places.

Reportedly, the state has received fresh snowfall, and the maximum temperature plunged 6 to 14 notches below normal on Wednesday. The local weather office stated that light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in the plains and mid-hills and light to moderate rainfall or snowfall in higher reaches from May 4 to May 7 due to a fresh western disturbance.
Meanwhile, the weatherman also added that several areas in Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive rainfall, hail and lightning.

The IMD has also added that light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Goa.
Also, most areas in Rajasthan will likely experience thunderstorms and lightning for the next three days due to an active western disturbance.

A 'yellow' alert for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in plains, low and mid-hilly areas in Himachal has been issued till May 6.
Reports have it that light to moderate rains, along with strong and chilly winds, have lashed parts of all the 12 districts in the state. As many as 15 roads have been blocked for traffic in the state. While Joginder Nagar in Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall of 47 mm, it was followed by Dalhousie 42 mm, Manali 24 mm, Pachhad 23 mm, Chamba 27.5 mm, Sundernagar 22.2 mm, Solan 12 mm, while state capital Shimla received 11.2 mm of rain.
