Tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh to remain closed for 3 months

The famous six tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh have been shut down for three months due to the monsoon season. It was announced that the Kanha Tiger Reserve, Bandhavgarh National Park, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Pench National Park, Panna National Park and Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve will remain shut for three months.

Though the parks will remain closed, the buffer zones will be open for tourism activities, informed the officer. The chief conservator of forest (wildlife), Alok Kumar said "The core areas of the six tiger reserves have been closed for three months. However, the buffer areas of the reserves will remain open for tourism activities. The core area will reopen on October 1."He further said that the tiger reserves have been shut as monsoons are the breeding season for tigers. Also during the monsoons, the reserve pathways become unmotorable due to heavy rains. The infrastructure in these parks, like grasslands, are developed for animals especially for the monsoon period.
As per the last tiger census, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of big cats in the country which is 526. The All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 recorded 2967 tigers in India.

Kanha Tiger Reserve here is the largest national park with a large population of big cats. The area is divided into two protected zones namely Hallon and Banjar. The park was established on 1 June 1955 and was designated a tiger reserve in 1973.
