Though the parks will remain closed, the buffer zones will be open for tourism activities, informed the officer. The chief conservator of forest (wildlife), Alok Kumar said "The core areas of the six tiger reserves have been closed for three months. However, the buffer areas of the reserves will remain open for tourism activities. The core area will reopen on October 1."
As per the last tiger census, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of big cats in the country which is 526. The All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 recorded 2967 tigers in India.
Kanha Tiger Reserve here is the largest national park with a large population of big cats. The area is divided into two protected zones namely Hallon and Banjar. The park was established on 1 June 1955 and was designated a tiger reserve in 1973.
