The incident took place recently, leaving nearly 2000 residents of the town astonished as their streets were morphed into a flowing river of red wine.
As the news of this incident rapidly spread on the internet, with videos and images going viral, netizens responded with humorous reactions to the unusual red wine river flood crisis.
The scale of the spill was immense, which was equivalent to filling an Olympic-size swimming pool, as per the reports. Immediate intervention by authorities, redirecting the flow to a nearby playground, averted an environmental catastrophe as it prevented the wine from entering the Certima River. Company officials and the Anadia Fire Department worked together to contain the flood.
Although the wine spill did not result in any injuries to humans or animals, it did inflict damage to infrastructure, including roads, fields, lands, and cellars, reports added.
Levira Distillery reassured the public that safety measures were in place moving forward, and they promptly transferred the wine-soaked soil from the affected area to a specialised local treatment plant. An investigation was initiated to determine the cause of the spillage.
A similar incident occurred in March 2020 in the northern Italian town of Castelvetro di Modena, where over 1000 litres of Cantina Settecani red wine entered local water pipes and impacted nearly 20 homes, as per the reports.
