The International Air Connectivity Scheme (IACS) launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, will aim to connect certain states in the country with select international destinations. The IACS is the international UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme of the country, and aims to promote socio-economic growth. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the northeast states of Manipur, Tripura, and Assam will have air routes connecting with international destinations such as Bangkok, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Yangon, Hanoi, Mandalay, Kunming & Chittagong.
Both GIAL and AAI have started the construction of New Integrated Terminal Building or NITB, along a host of other development works at their respective airports in order to increase passenger handling capacity, and also to improve the services of the airports. Imphal Airport's New Integrated Terminal Building will be completed at a cost of INR 500 crore, and will be able to handle 2.4 million passengers per annum.
